Nancy “Joann” Wood, born April 5, 1935, passed away on Oct. 28, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her father, Owen Chandler Moore; her mother, Irene Huffman Moore; her husband, Ernest Greenlee Wood; and her son, Ken Chandler Wood.

She is survived by her children, Ernest G. Wood Jr., Donna Wood, and Owen Wood (wife Erin). She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Nancy Wood, Wyatt Wood (wife Lacy), Vincent Wilson, Phoebe Wood, and Shelby Wood; and three great-grandchildren, Mia Wood, Shawn Campbell Jr., and Ennis Wood.

Joann was a faithful wife, a loving mother, grandmother, and a friend to many. She lived her life in the simplest way, finding joy in the small things like her flower beds, her cats, or the birds that visited her many bird feeders. But most importantly she found comfort in her family and friends, and of course any hungry animal that may have wandered onto her porch looking for a meal.

Joann, or “Granny Wood” as known by many, worked proudly 40 years for the Buena Vista school system as a cafeteria worker. It was one of her life’s joys that she spoke of often.

She was a faithful member of Grace Chapel in Buena Vista and lived her life as a devoted Christian with a strong faith in her Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

Joann was a shining example of the words “Love thy Neighbor,” and every aspect of her selfless personality showed that to the fullest. There is so much that could be said about this beautiful soul, and though she will be greatly missed, we can all find comfort in knowing that she is with her Lord and Savior in Heaven.

In lieu of flowers: donations can be sent to Rockbridge Area Hospice or Grace Chapel in Buena Vista.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at RockbridgeMemorial Gardens.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice.
