DAN WILLIAMS
DAN WILLIAMS
Daniel Morton Williams, 83, a lifelong resident of Rockbridge County, passed away on Oct. 25, 2026.
He was born the fourth of six children to Bill and Sue Williams at the original Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Lexington, now the historic Stonewall Jackson House. A favorite story of his to tell was that the delivery room was located in Gen. Jackson's former kitchen. After graduating from Rockbridge High School, Dan enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served a tour in Vietnam as a heavy equipment mechanic. He was also stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C., where he worked as a lifeguard at the base's beach.
In April 1969, he married Janet Kae Loeblien, who preceded him in death. A jack of all trades, Dan pursued many careers throughout his life. He owned and operated Rockbridge Block Company and also worked in general construction, maintenance, security, mail transportation and farming.
Dan served three terms as governor of the Blue Ridge Moose Lodge, where he helped build fellowship and community through several successful traditions, including bingo nights and barbecue chicken fundraisers.
In 2001, Dan and Jan sold their home in Fairfield and embraced RV living. Together, they traveled throughout all 48 continental states and spent their time work camping in Virginia and Florida. His adventures also took him to the water, where he embarked on a summer-long sailboat voyage with his brother, Twy, sailing from Virginia to Maine and back. This time in his life brought experiences and memories that stayed with him for the rest of his life.
Dan is survived by his children, Ronda Williams (Joe Thomas) of Lake Anna and Suzanne DuBois (John) of South Riding; his grandchildren, Lindsey Cox, John T. DuBois, Rebecca DuBois, Emily DuBois and Lucy DuBois; and his great-grandson, Slayden Cox. He is also survived by his longtime partner, Jacqueline Thompson of Raphine; his siblings, Twyman Williams, Suzanne Crawford and Annabel Johnson; and many beloved in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and cherished friends. In addition to his parents and his wife, Dan was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack Williams and Preston Williams.
Dan will be remembered for his quick wit, infectious sense of humor, unwavering work ethic and adventurous spirit. Dan lived life fully and on his own terms. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, resilience and love that will continue to live on in all who knew him.
A memorial service celebrating Dan's life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, at Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church in Lexington by the Rev. Carl Moore. Dan's ashes will be spread about the places he loved the most.
