Julian Douglas "Doug" Mears, 59, of Staunton, passed away on Oct. 8, 2026.

Doug was born on Oct. 5, 1967 to Robert and Elaine Mears. 

Doug was a self employed contractor and made his own opportunities when there appeared to be none.

Doug was loved by his family.

He is survived by his children, Sarah Mears (Adam), Cody Mears, Maxwell Mears (Meghan), and Katie Mears; and by his precious grandchildren, Haylea, Kharlea, Kavion and Amari. He is also survived by his sisters, Monica Duke, Laura Huffman (Sean), and Dana Mears-Southers; his brother, David Mears; and nieces and nephews.

He had a unique personality that could never be duplicated. Doug lived life his own way, bringing humor, honesty, and a memorable presence wherever he went. He was a one-of-a-kind individual whose impact on family and friends will not be forgotten.

A graveside service celebrating Doug's life will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 2 p.m. at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Rockbridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
