JOHN DILK
JOHN DILK
John Anthony Dilk passed away peacefully on Sept. 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on Feb. 22, 1947, in Adams, Mass., John was one of seven siblings. After attending Georgetown and living in Washington, D.C., and Santa Barbara, Calif., he moved to Lexington in 1985.
John quickly made Lexington his home and developed lasting bonds with countless people. He was a friend to many, especially those willing to debate and share ideas after a long day of work. John took great pride in being a skilled painting contractor and built a reputation for quality craftsmanship and continued working until late in his life, finding purpose and satisfaction in doing his work well.
John is survived by his daughter Michelle Dilk; his grandson August Dilk, whom he adored and who meant the world to him; his sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Malcolm Crawford; his sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and Michael Tallarico; his sisters, Nora Kimball and Sally Price; and his brother, Andrew Dilk. John will be greatly missed by his many nieces, nephews, and friends who he loved, and who loved him, fiercely. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyda and Andrew Dilk, and his brother Thomas Dilk.
John will be remembered for his infinite wisdom, generosity to others, love of fireworks (which earned him the affectionate nickname Johnny “Boom Boom”), hard work, sports, reading, good music, and the Berkshires. Family was at the center of John's life, and he cherished those he loved.
The family will hold a private memorial. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor John are encouraged to support a cause or organization that helps others in their community.
As we celebrate John’s life, we ask that you do as he did: engage others with an open heart and a willingness to listen. Be kind to a stranger, make time for the people you love, and never pass up an opportunity for a good conversation. We will miss him dearly and cherish the time we had with him. May his memory be a blessing.
