Jerald "Jay" David Alford, of Rockbridge County, was born on Saturday, April 28, 1956, and passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2026, at the age of 70. Jay was the son of the late Jerry Whitfield Alford and Peggy Eloise Massie. He is survived by two daughters, Alexia Elizabeth Alford (Michelle) and Jordan Blair Brainard (Joshua); sisters, Deborah Alford and Dana Gordon (Thomas); nieces, Kimberly Ogden, Jennifer Staneart (Josh), Berkley Mudrick (Colin), Brittany Trible (Paul); and nine great-nieces and nephews. Jay was an avid reader and a true outdoorsman who loved to ride horses, hunt, fish and regale friends and family with his tall tales. During his time spent at Glenburnie Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Jay became very fond of the staff, especially the physical therapy team. His family is most appreciative of the care they provided to Jay. A graveside gathering will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m. at Falling Spring Presbyterian Church near Glasgow.
