GALE DICKERSON
Gale Mackey Dickerson, born on Jan. 11, 1960, in Fredericksburg, died on Sept. 9, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sanford S. Cohen; parents, Dr. Altamont Dickerson Jr. and Margaret D. Dickerson; and brother, Altamont Dickerson III (Cindy).
Surviving are her sister, Anne M. Dickerson; stepson, Ross Cohen (Jessica); step-grandsons; nieces and nephews.
Gale was a registered profession engineer, who graduated from Virginia Tech in 1982 and continued her coursework at Virginia Tech, the University of Virginia and Virginia Commonwealth University. She worked for VDOT and related contractors for 35 years in many different engineering positions and was the first woman in many of the jobs she held. Her work ranged from geotechnical engineering to construction project management and quality control. Most of her projects involved roadway and bridge construction projects.
Gale loved her family and pets, especially her dogs. She was an avid walker and enjoyed gardening, puzzles and supporting her Hokies. Her friends and family will remember her generous and kind heart.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Timber Ridge A.R. Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
