Shirley Swink Montgomery, 91, of Lexington, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, at Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital. 

Born June 26, 1935, in Rockbridge County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Glasgow Swink and Marie Ayres Swink.

Also preceding her in death were her husband, Milton Graham Montgomery; brother, Robert H. Swink; and two good friends and neighbors for many years, Mary Moore Anderson and Pearl Thomas.

Shirley was a member of Oxford Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are her children, Emily M. Conroy and Beverly M. Nedrow (Bruce); grandchildren, Zoey Fahner and Michael Zakaib; sister, Kathy Landes (Glenn); niece, Jessica Johnson (Hunt); nephew, Kyle Landes; and great-niece, Violet Johnson.

The family expresses thanks to Elizabeth Kosmas for providing thoughtful care throughout the years and gratitude to the Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital for their compassionate care in the final days of her life.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at Oxford Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Kyle Segars.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Oxford Presbyterian Church (143 Oxford Lane, Lexington, VA 24450) or ConnectionsPlus Hospice (315 Myers St., Lexington, VA 24450).
