Kathryn Gayle Bare, 72, of Buena Vista passed away peacefully on Aug. 11, 2026, surrounded by love.

She was a strong, independent, loving, funny and determined woman who lived life on her own terms. She loved her family deeply, treasured her friends, enjoyed traveling and making memories, and had a wonderful way of making people laugh and feel loved.

She was especially proud of her lifelong commitment to education and her remarkable career. She spent more than 40 years at Stonewall Jackson Hospital, beginning as a “stock boy” and working her way to become director of facility services before retiring. She continued her education throughout her life, earning her bachelor’s degree from Bluefield University and her master’s degree from Averett University.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Sallie Spaulding, and her daughter, Lisa Fox.

She is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Randy Bare; daughter, Dana Rogers (Scott); precious grandson, Zachary Rogers; brothers, Mark Hubert and Paul Hubert (Teresa); nieces and nephew, Jessica Mershon (David), Eddie Hubert (Darrah), and Melissa Miles (Rich); as well as many dear friends who became family and whom she loved dearly.

She believed life was meant to be lived, memories were meant to be made, and good times were meant to be enjoyed. She would not have wanted a sad goodbye, but rather a celebration filled with stories, laughter, and the people she loved.

Her legacy will live on in the family and friends who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

She had a life well lived.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel by Pastor Ralph Coleman. Burial will follow at GreenHill Cemetery.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
