Born Oct. 29, 1941, he was a son of Herbert Venable Mays and Ester Pultz Mays.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Franklin Mays and Jerry B. Mays; sisters, Donna Reid and Kathy Mays; stepson, Henry Hartless; and grandson, Nathaniel David Mays.

David was a retired heavy equipment operator.

Surviving are his wife, Glenda Mays; children, Rex A. Mays (Lisa), David B. Mays Jr. (Laurie) and Shelia Owens; sisters, Lois Troxell, Pauline Nuckols and Judy Reid; grandchildren, Josh Mays, Alex Mays, Dustin Mays (Nell), Brandon Mays, Cheyenne Owens and Jeffrey Groah; great-grandchildren, Xander Mays, Keenan Clark, Joanna Mays, Sawyer Sheets and Brentley Owens.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
