John Henry Knick of Lexington passed away at his home on July 21, 2026.  

He was born in Rockbridge County on Nov. 12, 1929. 

On Aug. 31, 1951, he married the love of his life, Thelma Marie Linkenhoker, and together they built a life filled with commitment, resilience and cherished memories until her passing.  Though he missed her dearly, the love they shared remained a constant source of strength throughout his life.

John Henry proudly served his country as a military police officer in the United States Army, carrying the values of honor and integrity with him long after his military service ended.  He worked as an electrician with James Lees/Burlington for 47 years until his retirement.  Outside of work, John Henry was an avid bowler and golfer who enjoyed friendly competition.  His dedication to the Rockbridge County High School girl’s softball program where he served as groundskeeper and was an unwavering supporter who shared his belief in the impact athletics programs have on the development of youth.  He was also a proud member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and the Knights of Pythias, organizations through which he formed lasting friendships and continued his commitment to service.

Though he has reunited with his beloved Thelma, he leaves behind a son, Timothy Eugene Knick and his wife, Judy, and a cherished grandson, Noah Knick.  He also leaves behind a sister, Patricia Conner-Magee (Darryl), brother, Richard Knick, a sister-in-law, Joyce Austin, numerous nieces and nephews, with a special niece and caregiver, Jan Conner-Vest and his best friend, Jimmy Dale.

Services for John Henry will be held at 2 p.m.  Monday, July 27, at Harrison Funeral Home. Interment will be at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

John Henry’s life reminds us that a person’s true measure is found not in wealth or recognition, but in the love they give, the lives they influence and the example they leave for those who follow.
