She was born on March 24, 1955, in Philadelphia, Pa., daughter of Donald Carter Hall and Joan Sandra (Seabring) Hall.

Raised in Media, Pa., Linda enjoyed playing with her twin sister, Deidre, and visiting with her grandparents. She attended Nether Providence High School, graduating in 1973. An excellent musician, she was first chair clarinet in the high school orchestra and band.

Linda continued her studies at Penn State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in finance in 1977. While at Penn State, Linda continued her love of music, playing clarinet in the Penn State Marching Blue Band. She was one of the first two women who were accepted into the previously all-male band. In the Blue Band she marched in the Orange Bowl (1973), Cotton Bowl (1974) and Sugar Bowl (1975), when Penn State was a dominate force in college football. She was also a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority during her four years in college.

At Penn State, Linda joined the two-year NROTC program as a junior and received her commission as an ensign in the U.S. Navy upon graduation. After initial training at Lowry Air Force Base, Colo., she was assigned as an intelligence officer for Patrol Squadron 26, Brunswick Naval Air Station, Maine, in 1978.

She deployed overseas with the squadron to a number of locations, including Bermuda, the Azores and Spain. In 1980, she deployed with Patrol Squadron 26 to Okinawa, Japan, and Diego Garcia, in response to events in the Persian Gulf. It was while she was stationed in Brunswick that she met and married her husband, Arthur Kuehne, who was also a naval officer.

She was then assigned to the United States Atlantic Fleet headquarters in Norfolk where she provided intelligence support for the commander-in-chief, Atlantic Fleet staff. In that role she also deployed on the USS Mount Whitney during a “Northern Wedding” Exercise in the North Atlantic and Norway.

Linda was next assigned to the Naval Station Treasure Island, San Francisco, Calif., as the head of security for the station. Upon completion of this assignment, she transitioned to the Naval Reserves and served with Patrol Squadron 68, Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. She resigned her commission in 1990 as a lieutenant commander.

In civilian life, Linda worked as a travel agent for corporate accounts, as a volunteer staff member at the American Red Cross national headquarters, and finally as a project manager for the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD).

In 1999, Linda and her husband, Art, embarked on their greatest challenge which was adopting three children from Russia. Over the next year, Linda overcame the mountains of paperwork necessary to complete the adoption process and they were able to successfully complete the adoptions just days before a new Russian government, under Vladimir Putin, halted all foreign adoptions.

Upon Art’s retirement, they moved to the Lexington area in 2015. Linda vigorously supported the Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church as a member of the choir, Christian Education chairman, session member, and editor of the church’s monthly newsletter. She also enjoyed walking with friends along the Chessie Trail, working in her numerous flower gardens which surrounded their house, and watching the bountiful wildlife, especially the Canada geese families as they raised their young on the pond each year.

Linda’s greatest joy was interacting with children – nieces, nephews, grandchildren, neighbors and church families. She always tried to provide them with inspiration, confidence and challenge.

She is survived by her husband, her mother, her twin sister, Deidre, her brother, Chip, her younger sister, Andrea; her three children, Alex, Sergei and Vera; seven grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, Aug. 8, at 11 a.m. at the Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will be at the U.S. Naval Academy columbarium on a date to be determined.
