LYNN JONES

LYNN JONES

James Lingon “Lynn” Jones Jr., 83, of Lexington passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at hospice in Roanoke.

He was born Feb. 13, 1943, in Norfolk to James L. Jones and Dorothy Cannon Jones.

Lynn graduated from Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach where he was an outstanding athlete and was offered several athletic scholarships. Lynn chose Virginia Tech because he wanted to major in mechanical engineering.

After graduating, he went to work with PPG Industries in New Martinsville, W.Va. Then he moved to Richmond to work for DuPont. Afterwards, he took a job with Richmond Engineering company. Then his career moved him to Lakeland, Fla., then to Clermont, Fla., with smaller engineering companies. His last move was to Lexington where he retired.

Lynn’s health started declining, after three stints, followed by a heart attack, couple of years later, colon cancer, balance problems and strokes. Before he died, he had a massive stroke which left him paralyzed on the right side of his body and he could not speak or feed himself. During all of these health challenges, he also suffered from diabetes and consumed too much sugar.

Left to treasure his memory is his wife of 60 years, Ann Cumbie Jones.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Lexington.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
