Susan Williams 

Susan was born to Robert Richard Moore and Bessie Evelyn Moore in Toledo, Ohio, on Aug. 14, 1943, and grew up in Dearborn, Mich. She passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026. 

She received her bachelor of arts in political science from University of Michigan and her master of fine arts in writing from Johns Hopkins University. 

She worked for the government for many years and at Washington and Lee University in the math department and at the university library. She also worked as a real estate agent in Rockbridge County and for the Lexington Visitor Center as a tour guide. In her free time, she enjoyed writing, listening to opera, traveling, oil painting, building furniture and sewing.  She especially enjoyed sewing costumes for various productions held at the former Henry Street Playhouse in Lexington. For several years, she also supported and volunteered for the Rockbridge Old Time Mountain Music and Dance Festival. Additionally, she was a playwright and was proud of a play she wrote, Paint It Black, of which a stage reading was performed in Bethesda, Md. She also had several short stories published in different literary journals. 

She raised her family in Lexington, then moved to Washington, D.C., and became communications manager for various professional organizations. After she retired, she returned to Lexington and regularly attended Grace Episcopal Church. 

Susan is predeceased by her sister, Nancy Etta Moore. She is survived by her son, Robert (Caroline), daughter Elizabeth (Daniel, deceased), and three grandchildren. 

A graveside service was held at Oak Grove Cemetery.
