GLENN ROSE

Glenn Tucker Rose, 79, of Hogback Mountain, passed away May 28, 2026, at Shenandoah Health and Rehabilitation in Buena Vista.

Glenn was born Jan. 9, 1947, in Fairfax County, the eldest son of the late Arthur Rutland and Jean Amelia Rose. He was a graduate of Daniel Hand High School, class of 1965 and Erskine College, class of 1969.

In life, Glenn worked as an English teacher, hosted the WREL “Hotline” radio talk show, and ran his own business from 1978 to 2005, the James River Basin Canoe Livery, located at the Coffee Pot on U.S. 60 between Buena Vista and Lexington. Glenn loved to canoe whitewater rivers and streams throughout the Eastern United States. He also enjoyed hiking and photography and had a lifelong passion for wild nature, rivers, and classical music.

Glenn wrote a monthly column, “Quid De Cogitatione,” for The News-Gazette from 2013 until earlier this year.

Glenn is survived by his wife Marjorie, of Harrisville, W.Va., his son Brice, of Lexington, brothers Gregg Rose, Randy and Scott Fogerty, sister-in-law Jennifer Craddock and brotherin- law John Craddock, and numerous nephews and nieces. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Geoff and Drew Haycock.

A celebration of life will be held in Goshen Pass at a future date in June.
