Richard Cordie Garrett, Jr., 92, of Lexington passed away peacefully Friday, May 22, 2026, at Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital.

Born Oct. 15, 1933, in Buena Vista, he was a son of Richard Cordie Garrett Sr. and Estelle Frances Garrett Secrist.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Jean Hickman Garrett; brothers Calvin Garrett and Claude L. Garrett; and sister Betty Garrett Nicely.

Richard was retired from Burlington Industries. He was a past governor and life member of the Lexington Moose Lodge #1700. Richard also held life membership (60 years of service) with the Kerrs Creek Fire & EMS Department and served as the department’s chaplin. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved to tell a bunch of fishing tales and could catch the “biggest fish out of a tree with the best of them”.

Surviving are his children, Richard Cordie Garrett III (Teresa), Deborah Garrett Harlow, Mary Beth Wimer, Janet Leigh Taylor (Jerry Via), William Thomas Garrett (Geanie) and Patsy Spencer; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Clara Huffman and Charles Secrist; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 29, at Harrison Funeral Chapel by the Rev. David Bain and Dorsey Hostetter officiating. Burial is private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
