She was born April 9, 1937, in Rockbridge County to the late Robert S. Gillespie and Mary McDougall.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Frank Earl Chittum.

She retired from the Burlington Industries.

Surviving are her four children, Steve Chittum (Sharon), Cathy Hamilton, Tim Chittum and Sherry Melville (David); grandchildren, Jason, Ashley, Allison (Randy), Emily (James) and Scott; and a host of great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be conducted at Green Hill Cemetery.
