DAVID NOFSINGER
DAVID NOFSINGER
David Nofsinger was preceded in death by his parents Frank Montegue Nofsinger Sr. and Edna Haymaker Nofsinger, as well as a brother, Kent Nofsinger; a sister, Martha Nofsinger Barnett; and a granddaughter, Chelsea Dove.
David is survived by his wife, Kinuko Nofsinger; his twin daughters Ronda Nofsinger Dove (Gehrig) and Vonda Nofsinger (Jenny Congrove); his stepson Timothy Tomlin (Crystal); and one sister, Margaret Garrison. David was blessed with many grandchildren (Lori, Ryan, Chelsea, Justin, Brittany, Lorraine) and great-grandchildren (Gavyn, Katie, Trevor, Connor, Houston, Madison). Remaining are many beloved nieces and nephews along with their families, coworkers and friends, as well as his precious dog, Ozzy.
Dave was Virginia born and bred. And he was proud of it! He cherished the simple pleasures of working hard, building, and fixing things if only to say, “Works good, lasts a long time.” Our childhood was filled with weekend projects, and not just gardening or tending to handyman chores for the Nofsinger and Riley sides of the family. Daddy Dave was constantly learning building a brick fireplace, tending to a plumbing challenge, refurbishing a vehicle, something to do with a tap and die kit. The only thing he couldn’t quite master was chasing that white ball around a golf course!
Our childhood smelled of Bondo and model airplane fuel. We were sometimes embarrassed that BV could always hear us - either in the model airplane flying over the park or in our very loud and unique, gold VW Bug. Daddy Dave filled childhood with camping, fishing, picnicking, or hiking. We were often going to air shows, the beach, all the regional caverns or to honor our nation visiting D.C. Stargazing was a special interest only surpassed by flailing snakes to death to protect us while fishing.
Family interrupted: like so many in our community divorce, the Flood of ‘85 and changes in industry reshaped our family. When Daddy Dave remarried, we inherited the little brother we’d always wanted in Tim. Kinuko taught us great things and cherished Daddy Dave. When they moved with REA Wire we missed them terribly. Sometimes we even missed the smell of magnet wire.
The North Carolina days gave us good family memories, too. There was a swimming pool, a neighborhood lake with crappy and endless rounds of Rummicube. That’s where a cabin was started with a chainsaw and reject telephone poles. Gehrig and Ronda partnered in and started on the build in Collierstown, later purchasing it outright to hold a legacy and our best family memories.
How we thanked God for Daddy Dave’s return to Virginia. He decided to drive a dump truck saying, “The (corporate) rat race is over. The rats have won.” But they were the happiest working days of his life building a business to be proud of. These last years were marked by sunbaked days chasing a bass named “Freight Train” and teaching Chelsea and Ronda to hunt.
Per his request, there will be no public services. However, “The Twins” invite you to share your kind memories when we see you around town. More importantly, share your own family tales around the table now while it’s still easy. We’d love to hear them when we inevitable run into you at Walmart.
With great affection for the community we grew up in and continued devotion to our daddy, May God bless you, Ronda and Vonda NG
