Born on Aug. 1, 1946, in Washington, D.C., Kenneth was the son of Rear Admiral Kenneth Mortimer Hoeffel Sr. and Mary Polk Drake Hoeffel. He grew up in Chevy Chase, Md., and was a lifelong member of the Chevy Chase Club, where he swam on the swim team in his youth. He went on to attend Emory & Henry College, earning a bachelor of arts degree in 1969.

After graduating, Kenneth served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve from 1969 to 1975.

On Oct. 22, 1983, Kenneth married Delia Anne Weaver. They made their home in Rockbridge County in 1991, where they raised their daughter, Delia Teel Izutsu. Kenneth loved animals, British cars, and the Virginia countryside, and remained devoted to his family until his wife’s passing on April 2, 2021.

Kenneth is survived by his daughter, Delia Teel Izutsu; his brother, Gaston Drake Hoeffel of Round Hill; and his nephew, Jack Hoeffel of Leesburg.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delia; his sister, Cornelia “Nina” Drake Hoeffel Scott of Princeton, N.J. his father; and his mother.
