JOYCE KEISER

JOYCE KEISER

Joyce Dudley Keiser of Buena Vista went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 23, 2026, while at Shenandoah Nursing and Rehab. She was 88 years old.

She was born on April 24, 1937, on Lone Jack to parents David and Louise Manspile Dudley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Zane Keiser; her daughter, Monica Keiser; her sisters, Lorean (Edsel) Coleman, Gladys Boyd, Annie (Francis/Snookie) Brantley, Evelyne (Calvin) Fauber and Peggy (Mac) McElroy.

Joyce is survived by her daughters, Lisa Keiser, Trina (David) Carter, Kristin Dorsey (Michael Wilhelm), and her brother, David (Barbara) Dudley. Joyce lived and thrived on being “Nana” to her grandchildren, Brad, Amber and Morgan Carter, Forrest Clark and Megan and Ella Dorsey as well as her great-grandchildren, Jayden, Jacob and Jaxon Ruley, Kaycen Dudley, Kazleigh Richmond and Zane Clark. Joyce also has a multitude of nieces and nephews and was close to many of them.

Joyce worked at James Lees for about 15 years before working at Blue Bird Industries sewing school bus seats for about 25 years where she met lifelong friends. She received her nursing certificate after Blue Bird shut down and sat with (as mama would say) older people for a few years. Her heartache at her clients passing became very difficult for her and she chose to go back to Mohawk for about 25 more years. Joyce was a social butterfly and those who knew her, which seemed like half of Rockbridge County, would remark what a hard worker she was. Throughout the years Joyce was often seen at her children and grandchildren’s ball games, and she was even a band booster for several years.

Joyce was known for her frankness and sometimes brutal honesty, her tenacity, her integrity, her vitality, and her laugh. Joyce liked to present herself well and was often mistaken for looking many, many years younger than her age. Throughout her life Joyce had a strong faith in Christ but treasured her church friends and family in her later years and was a figure in our community. Memories of full spread meals on Sunday afternoons, her home full of family (not just on holidays), seemingly endless supply of diapers changing, doors being opened and the numerous times threats were made by Joyce to visitors while she babysat - “don’t you wake that baby up.” Joyce was a gift giver and loved to spend quality time with those she loved. She did not have to tell you she loved you, she showed it.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 28, at noon at Buena Vista Baptist Church. Refreshments will be provided after the service at the church. Her family invites anyone wanting to share stories about Joyce to please share them at the service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local fire and rescue squad.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Home.
