Terry Lee Hager

Terry Lee Hager, aged 73, passed away on Feb. 23, 2026, in Winchester.

Born on Feb. 16, 1953, in Martin, Ky., Kerman Odell Hager and Stella Maria Dodd, Terry's journey through life was one of resilience and hard work. He graduated from Garden High School in Oakwood, and embarked on a diverse career path that reflected his adaptability and strong work ethic.

 

Terry served honorably in the U.S. Army, being discharged on Dec. 13, 1974. He initially worked in the coal mining industry, rising to the position of foreman before transitioning to a certified welder following the downturn in mining. An injury later led him to a role as a purchasing agent at DullesInternational Airport for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, where his dedication to his work was evident.

 

Beyond his professional life, Terry was a devout follower of the Pentecostal faith. His hobbies included watching football, with a particular passion for the Redskins, and he was also a fan of NASCAR racing and world championship wrestling. Terry took great pride in his yard work and flower gardening, skills that were admired by many who saw his homes in Natural Bridge and Winchester.

 

Terry's life was enriched by his marriage to Margaret Cox Hager, who was the love of his life and soul mate. He became a cherished member of the Cox family, embodying the values of love and family unity.
He is survived by his sister, Sandy, and her husband, Sonny of Oakwood; brothers-in-law Tommy Cox of Berryville and Michael Cox of Independence; sister-in-law Donna Hager of Johnson City, Tenn.; and several beloved nieces and nephews including Stephanie Riggsby, Thomas R. Cox, Kevin Cox and Jerry Wayne Hager. In addition to his parents, Terry was predeceased by his brothers, Jerry, Ricky and Bill; father-in-law Russell C. Cox; brother-in-law Ted Cox; and a special nephew, Scott Riggsby.

 

A celebration of life will be held at Omps Funeral Home on Amherst Street in Winchester on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 11 a.m. with a time of food and fellowship to follow.

Terry will be cremated, and his ashes will be interred at the Cox Family Cemetery in Independence at a later date.

 

Terry Lee Hager's legacy is marked by his resilience dedication and the deep bonds he formed with family and friends. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by those who loved him.
