CAROL BOZEMAN
CAROLBOZEMAN

Born on March 15, 1942, in Atlanta, Ga., she was the beloved daughter of Homer A. Kennon and Beatrice M. Kennon, who instilled in her the values of kindness, resilience, and faith that shaped her life.
Carol built a life marked by love, service, and steadfast commitment to those she cherished. She shared a devoted marriage with her husband, Brigadier General Michael L. Bozeman (USAR Ret.), standing beside him through decades of military service and as a track and field coach and other family milestones. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and deep-rooted loyalty and devotion to each other.
She is survived by her daughter, Gioia B. Giltz, and son-in-law Col. John R Giltz (USMC Ret.); her son, SFC Robert K. Bozeman (USA Ret.), and daughterin- law Jennifer; her sister-in-law Anna B. Kinsey; her treasured grandchildren, Wade (Katie), Ashley, Reilly (Leah), Luke (Kaytlynn), Caroline, and Christina Carol; and she also delighted in her great-grandchildren - Jennifer, Gary, Bozeman and Poppy - each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
She was an outstanding high school athlete. She won state championships in swimming and lettered in both basketball and softball. She became a certified water safety instructor and was the first female lifeguard in the city of Atlanta. She also used her talents to teach young children swimming.
She was a long-time member of the Girl Scouts of America serving as a troop leader, camp director and on the board of directors both in Florida and Virginia.
Wherever they lived she made sure her family was active in the church community. She taught elementary-level Sunday school for many years, worked in the nursery, and served on personnel and finance committees. She was also the class administrator for BSF, Explorers and Community Bible Study for 17 years.
She was actively involved with Mike’s track and field teams. She worked the scorer’s table for many years at all the home meets and was a constant presence at all VMI’s championship meets, providing delicious chocolate chip cookies for all their away meets. She was like a second mom to all the athletes Mike coached both at the University of Florida and at VMI. When women first matriculated to VMI she was officially named an assistant cross-country coach so the women athletes would have a proper role model to mentor them.
Carol’s legacy lives on in the generations she nurtured, encouraged, and loved without reservation. Her gentle spirit, steady presence, and generous heart will be remembered always by those fortunate enough to have known her.
A celebration of her life will be on Jan. 10, 2026, at Manly Memorial Baptist Church. A period of visitation will be held from noon until 1 p.m. Service begins at 1 p.m. There will be a period of extended visitation after the service is concluded.
In honoring Carol’s memory, her family invites others to carry forward her example of compassion, humility, and enduring love.
