Dale Glenn Meyer, 72, of Rockbridge County died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025, entering into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He was born May 2, 1953, a son of the late Glenn W. Meyer and Bernadette Burton Meyer. He was born in Illinois, but the family soon moved to Arkansas, where he spent his entire childhood.
Surviving are his wife, Carol Rhodes Meyer; children Ross Meyer of Forest, Scott Meyer of Hixson, Tenn., and Laura Mitchell of Raphine; eight grandchildren; and sister Jane Wohlford of Oswego, Ill.
Dale was a 1976 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and was the recipient of the prestigious Steinmetz award for his senior design project. In his career in the U.S. Navy, he served at sea as a surface line officer and was a naval weapons instructor. He later served in the Naval Reserves. He began his civilian career as an instrumental member of the start-up team at the Bath County Pumped Storage Project. His career continued to focus on energy projects and power production facilities, as operations manager with Dominion Resources, Mead-Westvaco, and BARC. He retired from BARC.
Dale loved many creative hobbies, including repairing and restoring German Black Forest clocks, and other mechanical antiques. He had a remarkable appreciation for antique craftsmanship. Dale loved spending time with his beloved wife, children and grandchildren. His love of the Word of God, and his appreciation for God's beautiful creation, were continual throughout his life. Some of his favorite memories included spending time at Lake Gaston, N.C., fishing for smallmouth in the Buffalo River in Arkansas with his sons, and enjoying the beauty of the woods and mountains of his home.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Harrison Funeral Chapel by Pastor George Warden. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
