Calvin Eason Coffey, 86 of Buena Vista passed away peacefully at his home the morning of Sunday, Nov. 30, 2025.
Born June 24, 1939, Calvin was the eldest of five children born to Catherine Wiseman Coffey and Gilmer Coffey.
He was a lifelong resident of Buena Vista. He was a well-known and well-liked successful business owner for many years. He opened his auto parts store, CC Parts in 1976 on Sycamore Avenue. Calvin operated CC Parts for over 20 years. When he sold the store he wasn’t quite ready to retire. He obtained his real estate license and began selling real estate. He was a hard working, quick-witted man who never met a stranger. He loved Buena Vista and was always willing to donate his time and resources that benefited the town. He was a member (and former president) of the Buena Vista Lions club for decades.
Calvin was a lifelong lover of music, particularly bluegrass, folk and gospel. He collected and played a large number of stringed instruments. He enjoyed gathering with other musicians to play and entertain. Whether it be at Glen Maury Park during the Fiddler’s Convention, at the senior center performing with Mrs. C’s Pickers or at his annual Christmas Eve party playing with family and friends, Calvin loved music. He was a lifetime fan of the Brooklyn/LA Dodgers, a golfer, a fisherman and a animal lover.
Calvin is survived by his three children, Pam Breeden (Danny) of Buena Vista, Troy Coffey (Virginia) of Troutville and Mark Coffey of Buena Vista. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Nicholas Coffey (Emily) of Manassas, Calvin Coffey of Troutville and Jordan Coffey of Harrisonburg. Additionally, he is survived by two stepchildren, Frank Figgers (Anita) of Clifton Forge and Beth F. Birmingham (Scott) of the United Kingdom. He’s survived by three step-grandchildren, Logan Dudding (Scott), James Birmingham and Niamh Birmingham. Calvin is survived by his two brothers, Tommy (Ida) of Rockbridge Baths, Ray (Donna) of Tennessee; sisters-in-law Shirley Figgers (Fred) of North Carolina and Judy Bishop (Larry) of Charles City Colo.; and brothers-in-law Garry Pruitt (Linda) Staunton and Tony Price of West Virginia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Vest Coffey (d. 1986) and Jeanette Vest Coffey (d. 2019) and his two sisters Dorlene C. Snider and Darliss C. Pruitt.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose and Lotts of Buena Vista. Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Bolling Grose and Lotts. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec 5, at Bolling, Grose and Lotts. A graveside service will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Buena Vista. Rev. Kevin Haynes will be officiating. The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the C Wing nurses at Alleghany Health and Rehab in Clifton Forge and to Calvin’s nurses from ACG Hospice.
