Born with a gentle heart and devoted spirit, Shirley dedicated her life to caring for her family and creating a home filled with warmth, kindness and love.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles “Bye” Spence, and her parents, Eugene Harrison Floyd and Judy Matilda Floyd.

She is survived by her beloved son, Kevin Spence. As a proud mother, she poured her energy into raising “Kev” with patience, faith, and a steady hand. Her home was a place where good food was always on the table, and where her quiet strength could be felt in every room.

In addition to her son, she is survived by a sister, Lois Roberts; a brother, Larry “Moose” Floyd, whom she lovingly called “Frankie,” and his wife, Linda. Extended family and friends will love her and will miss her dearly.

Shirley had a lifelong passion for North Carolina Tar-Heels basketball and never missed a chance to cheer them on. Her enthusiasm was contagious and brought a smile to your face.

She will be remembered for her laughter, her loving nature, and the simple, beautiful way she enriched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her, especially her neighbors. She was a member of Calvary Brethren Church and lived by the Golden Rule.

A graveside service was conducted at Green Hill Cemetery on Saturday, Nov. 29, by the Rev. Butch Grow and Rick Ramsey.

The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Hall, especially Jessica and Jennifer for loving Shirley like family and Sherry for always following through.
