DOROTHY C. LEWIS
Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend
1930-2025
Dorothy Coffey Lewis, age 95, passed away peacefully on Oct. 20, 2025, at the home of her devoted daughter, Vicky J. Bush, in Jacksonville, Fla. Dorothy had been lovingly cared for by Vicky since 2018, following the loss of her son David — a sorrow that marked the beginning of her health’s gentle decline.
Born in 1930 to Saylor M. and Margaret R. Coffey, Dorothy was raised with strong family values and a resilient spirit.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl W. “Dicky” Lewis, and her siblings Cecil M. Coffey of Glasgow, James E. Coffey of Chesapeake, Dolly Snodgrass of Roanoke, and John M. Coffey of Waynesboro.
Dorothy’s life was a testament to quiet strength, enduring love, and unwavering devotion to family.
She is survived by her sister Mary Brown of Signal Mountain, Tenn.; her son, Morris Lewis of Chicago, Ill.; and her daughter Vicky J. Bush of Jacksonville, Fla. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren — Carl, Sandra, Wesley, Tereasa, Angela, James, and Jessica — and her great-grandchildren, Becky, Bealynn, Josh, Eric and Mason.
Dorothy’s warmth, wisdom, and gentle humor touched all who knew her. She will be remembered for her deep love of family, her grace in the face of life’s trials, and the quiet joy she brought to everyday moments.
A private family gathering will be held to honor her life and memory. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that acts of kindness be extended to others in Dorothy’s name.
