She was born Jan. 19, 1931, in Alleghany County to John Allen Luther Armontrout and Rosa Hatcher Armontrout.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Gary Daniel Smith Jr.; brothers Charles M. Armontrout and William Armontrout; and half-sisters, Alpha and Grace.

She is survived by children, Danny Ray LaFon (Karen), Susan Diane Eberly (Tom) and Cynthia Kay Downs; six grandchildren, Christina Marie LaFon, Stephanie Diane Eberly, Matthew Thomas Eberly, Barrett Colby Downs, Jessica Danielle Eberly and Sierra Downs Lowder; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-greatgrandchild.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at Ebenezer A.R. Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Buena Vista, or ConnectionsPlus Healthcare + Hospice, Lexington.

Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
