SAMNEWCOMER

Samuel Edward Newcomer, 71, passed away early on the morning of Oct. 10, 2025. He was the son of Bud Ralston Newcomer and Anna Louise Ward Newcomer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Annabelle; his brother, Steve; and his best friend, Dane Herr.

He is survived by his three sisters, Martha, Cindy and Connie Newcomer, all of Lexington.

Sam graduated from Rockbridge High School in 1976. He loved getting together with his classmates for reunions, or just reminiscing about old times.

He would tell people he was a Newcomer, but he had lived in Rockbridge County all his life. With his passing, our community has lost a library of knowledge about the people and places of Rockbridge County, especially Rockbridge Baths and Brownsburg. He was a keeper of history of his time and place.

Sam was a kind and gentle soul. He wrote poetry and music, and was a wonderful guitarist. He was a great softball player and often reminisced about what fun it was playing ball in Bustleburg, back in the days of his youth.

Sam will be sorely missed by many. His funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, Nov. 15, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Rockbridge Baths.

Following his funeral and interment, there will be a celebration of his life at the Rockbridge Baths Volunteer Fire Department. Please come and join us in this time of food and fellowship and share your stories of Sam.
