BOB SHORT

BOB SHORT

BOB SHORT

Robert “Bob” Dunham Short III, 73, of Lexington, was peacefully raised from death to eternal life with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at his home on Oct. 30, 2025.

Born in Harlan, Ky., Bob spent his early years moving around the country before settling in Leesburg, where he and his wife, Diana, raised their family for over 20 years. Later in life, they moved to Lexington, drawn by the peace of the mountains - something he said was “in his blood.”

Bob lived a life of unwavering devotion to Jesus Christ, and his faith was the foundation upon which he built relationships with family and friends. Whether camping with loved ones, traveling the world, or serving others through mission work, Bob consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to loving and following his Savior. He gave faithfully to his church, missions, and many ministries that shared the Gospel and helped those in need. This outward expression of faith was grounded in a deep trust in God and a desire to serve others with love and purpose. He lived out his faith daily through humility, integrity, and quiet service to others.

Bob earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Purdue University and went on to have a distinguished career in defense technology. Among his many accomplishments, he was especially proud of his leadership roles at VirnetX and his instrumental contributions to the success of the Global Hawk program while at SAIC.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Diana Short; his children, Melissa (Corby) Hoback, Elyssa (Jared) Lanham, Dunham (Carla) Short, and Nathan (Courtney) Short; and his grandchildren, Andrew, Samuel, Karis, Caleb, Liam, Micah, Gavin, Gideon, Aubree, Kendall, Tucker, Elizabeth, and Noah. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia Short and Virginia Walczak.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Dunham Short Jr. and Mildred Short; and his sister, Deborah Economopoulos.

Bob will be remembered for his deep faith, gentle wisdom, and enduring love for his family. His legacy of integrity, commitment, generosity, and faithfulness will continue to inspire others to live with purpose and conviction.

A celebration of life will be held for Bob at LexingtonBaptist Church.
