CAROL SCHONER

CAROL SCHONER

Carol Pletta Schoner died peacefully on Oct. 20, 2025, after being stricken with a rapidly advancing cancer. She leaves behind her husband, Phil; daughter, Sue Fangmann (Tom); and Tuxedo, her beloved springerspaniel that was her joy.

Carol was a loved member of the community, active in the Master Gardeners (voluntary service registrar), Quilt Guild (past president and quilt show organizer), Herb Guild (herb sale organizer), New Mount Olive Lutheran Church and Community Chorus (alto). Carol also excelled at shopping and considered it an essential hobby.

Carol’s quilts were all done with mastery and care. She was a true artist and was known for her quilts and fabric collection throughout the region. She was on the board of the Care Box Project, which sent care packages to deployed troops overseas from the Lexington and Rockbridge County area. Carol was also part of an associated group which made over 100 quilts for families of the military service members.

She and her husband Phil were also a host family for over a score of Virginia Military Institute cadets and Washington and Lee University students who found Sunday dinners, rest, love and comfort in a “home away from home.”

Carol will be cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Harrison Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In Carol’s memory, please consider a donation to the Leukemia Society or New Mount Olive Lutheran Church.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory. NG
