Born Jan. 25, 1938, he was a son of the late James Lawrence Smith and Margaret Mays Smith.

Also preceding him in death were three brothers, Harry Lee, Grover, and James “Deanie” Smith; and two sisters, Patsy and Mildred “PeeWee” Smith.

Carl was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and a retired greenskeeper at the Lexington Golf and Country Club. He also was an avid golfer and bowler.

Surviving are his wife, Wanda Troxell Smith; daughter Traci Smith Montgomery of Buena Vista; grandchildren, William Montgomery II and Cortni Montgomery, both of Buena Vista; sister, Alene Sligh of Pennsylvania; and special friends Oscar and Clarence Plogger and Ashby Horne.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Harrison Funeral Chapel with Pastor Ralph Coleman and Pastor James Youngblood officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory.
