EDNA HARRIS
Born Dec. 29, 1923, in Botetourt County, she was the daughter of Mary Smith Newman and James Oscar Newman.
She was a graduate of Buchanan High School. Edna was employed by Burlington Industries in Glasgow for 43 years. Even after retiring, she went on to work at the Maury River Senior Center for some 13 years. Edna was a longtime dedicated member of the Buena Vista Presbyterian Church, the Buena Vista Women’s Club and her Cancer Support Group.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Douglas Harris; four brothers, Harold Newman, Harry Newman, Howard Newman and Hugh Newman. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Newman, and a nephew, Greg Newman.
Surviving is one remaining sister, June Paxton; son, Steve Harris (Lisa); two grandchildren, Amanda Harris Stone (Chad) and Eric Harris; two great grandchildren, Grady Stone and Raegan Stone; two nieces and two nephews.
Edna leaves behind many fond memories for her family and friends to treasure. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Hers was a life well-lived.
The funeral took place at Buena Vista Presbyterian Church yesterday, Tuesday, Sept. 23. Interment immediately followed at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens.
The family wishes to thank all of Edna’s many caregivers at Shenandoah Valley Health and Rehab as well as those from Hospice for their tireless hours of caring and support.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Buena Vista Presbyterian Church, Hospice or the charity of one’s choice.
