Born Nov. 9, 1941, he was a son of John Leech Ballard and Erma Knick Ballard.

Jackie was a member of Lexington Church of God and also retired from Modine after 35 years of service. His hobbies included fast cars and old trucks. He adored his family especially the grandchildren.

Surviving are his wife, Cottie S. Ballard; children Richard Smith (Josie) and Thomas Vess (Donna), both of Buena Vista; special granddaughter Rachel Anderson (Andy) of Montgomery, Texas; five grandchildren, Richie Smith, Ronnie Smith, Brandi Dominguez, all of Lexington, Janie Vess of Lyndhurst and Amanda Hamilton of Amherst; and 12 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was conducted on Friday, Aug. 29, at Oak Grove Cemetery by Dorsey Hostetter.

Arrangements were by Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory.
