SONNY PRUETT

SONNY PRUETT

Oakey Lee Pruett Jr., lovingly known as “Sonny,” passed away on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2025, at 74 years of age.

Oakey leaves behind a legacy of craftsmanship, music, and a deep connection to the outdoors.

Born to Oakey Lee Pruett Sr. and Helen Pruett, Sonny grew up with a profound appreciation for nature. He loved hunting, fishing and the simple peace found in the woods and waters he cherished. A gifted stone mason by trade, his hands shaped lasting works that will stand for generations as a testament to his skill and dedication. Music was another of his passions, and those who knew him will remember the joy he brought to family and friends through the songs he played and him being a longtime member of The Blues Express and The Convertibles.

He was the proud father of Oakey Lee Pruett III, “Chip” (Jamie), who inherited his talent and passion for music. He was the beloved grandfather of Aaron Pruett and Hannah Pruett Wheeler (Ethan). He also found joy in becoming a great-grandfather to his precious great-granddaughter.

Sonny is also survived by his father, Oakey Lee Pruett Sr., his sister, Debby McDill (Dee); and his brothers, Danny Pruett (Debbie) and David Pruett (Paula), as well as his nieces, Danielle Pruett and Hunter Kingery (Cole).

Sonny will be remembered as a hardworking craftsman and a lover of the outdoors, specifically fly fishing and trophy buck hunting, as well as a man of music. His memory will live on in the stories told, memories shared and the stones he laid.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at Oak Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to your local hospice organization.

The family would like to extend gratitude to Seven Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation and Heartland Hospice for the care provided.
