TED VEST JR.
Milton “Ted” MacDonald Vest Jr. passed away on Aug. 9, 2025, at the age of 89.
He was born on Aug. 11, 1935, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Milton Vest Sr.
Ted is survived by two children, Timothy Vest (Tamyra) and Terry Smyth (Owen); five grandchildren, Jason Vest (Megan), Jacob Vest (Rebecca), Allyson Smyth, Madison Smyth and Richmond Smyth (Eden); and three great-grandchildren, Madelyn Vest, Mason Vest and Max Vest.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Vest. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved “Emma,” no matter where they were or what they were doing.
Ted was known by several nicknames, “Footsie” or Granddaddy and Bigs as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren called him. He believed life should be lived to the fullest and was always eager to entertain those around him with tales and heartfelt anecdotes.
Ted found joy in many pursuits, particularly as an avid sportsman. He embraced his love of baseball, hunting and fishing. These hobbies brought him not only happiness but also cherished memories with family and friends. He was always active in coaching youth in his backyard. He cherished spending quality time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, often taking them on vacations where they could create memories together that will last a lifetime. His trips were more than just vacations; they were adventures filled with love, laughter and the joy of sharing special moments with those he held most dear.
Ted’s legacy will continue through the lives of those he touched and the stories he shared. He will forever be remembered for his unwavering kindness, boundless generosity and the love he freely gave to family and friends alike.
The celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Ben Salem Presbyterian Church where he was a devoted member. A graveside service at GreenHill Cemetery and a reception at the Ben Salem schoolhouse will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to help someone in need, whether it’s buying a meal for someone at the next table, contributing to your favorite animal shelter, or simply offering a kind word of encouragement. Most importantly, we ask that you share a smile and greet those you pass by; you never know what a difference it can make. Trust in the Lord to guide you, as our dad always did. He would be humbled by these acts of kindness in his memory.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Carilion Rockbridge CommunityHospital, Shenandoah Valley Health & Rehab and ConnectionsPlus Healthcare + Hospice for their compassionate care.
Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
