BLANCH SORRELLS

Blanch Duff Heslep Sorrells claimed the promise of resurrection, passing away on July 30, 2025, at her home. 

A devoted wife, mother, cherished sibling and beloved friend, Blanch’s warmth, kindness and gentle strength touched all who knew her. Blanch was the daughter of George Ellie and Mary Templeton Duff, who preceded her in death.

Blanch was the loving wife of James Heslep with whom she shared 31 years of marriage until his passing in 1989.  Blanch married Lewis Sorrells, Jr. and shared a loving life together for 19 years until his passing.

Blanch was born in Rockbridge County and lived a life guided by compassion and quiet faith.  Her home was often a welcoming place for her large and extensive family.  As a babysitter, Blanch made a lasting impact on the lives of numerous children who stayed in her home.  Many children felt raised and loved by her as if she were their own mother.

Blanch’s legacy is one of love, dignity and quiet strength.  She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Roush (Chris) of Rockingham County, and her grandson, Austin Roush (Catherine) of Culpeper. 

Blanch’s family includes sisters Betty D. O’Connell (Stuart), Mary Whitten (Joseph), Annie L. Duff, Margaret Wilmer (David), Martha D. Page (Charlie); brothers Richard E. Duff (Jeanne), Walter J. Duff (Nan); sister-in-law Gail A. Heslep; and stepdaughters Lanny Price (Gary) and Robin Carey (Brian).  Blanch is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she adored. 

Blanch was preceded in death by brother William Duff, sister Dorothy E Chittum; brother James E. Duff; brother Robert A Duff, and brother-in-law, Jack L. Heslep.

Loved ones of Blanch’s will serve as pallbearers: Kenny Sorrells, Dale Fauber, Gary Price, Charlie Chittum, Scott Wilmer and Andy Wilmer. 

A funeral service will be conducted at noon Monday, Aug. 4, at Fairfield United Methodist Church by Pastor Nona Allen. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at a meal following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to ConnectionsPlus Healthcare + Hospice or Fairfield United MethodistChurch. The family wishes to give a special thanks to all the loving and selfless healthcare workers who cared for Blanch during her illness.
