Joshua Allen Ronnenberg, 36, of Lexington, Virginia, passed away on May 13, 2025, due to health complications related to dialysis.
Josh was born on April 17, 1989, in Winchester, Virginia, to Karla Ronnenberg and Frank Whittington. A lifelong free spirit with a one-in-a-billion personality, Josh truly lived life to the fullest. He embraced every opportunity, found joy in the little things, and made it his mission to bring smiles and laughter to those around him.
He was a shining light to so many—always seeing the best in others and uplifting everyone with his wit, humor, and kindness. Josh had a rare gift for connection, and those lucky enough to know him were blessed by his warmth and joy.
Josh began working at the RC State Theater in Lexington when he was just 15 years old. His dedication and love for the theater led him to earn his title as Manager, a role he cherished for many years. He was a beloved part of the Hull’s Drive in family, known for his humor, reliability, and the joy he brought to both coworkers and guests. He eventually stepped back to Assistnat Manager down due to health complications, but his impact on the theater and the community never faded.
A proud local artist, Josh was known throughout Rockbridge County for his creative spirit and lively caricatures, which he often drew at community events and businesses. His artwork brought people together and left lasting impressions on everyone he met.
He is survived by his loving mother, Karla Ronnenberg of Stephens City, Virginia; his father, Frank Whittington of Winchester, Virginia; his step-mother and father Hellen Floyd and Dean Little of Rockbridge Baths Virginia; his sisters, Nicole Van Zandt of Stephens City, Virginia and Brandi Looney of Beckley, West Virginia; and his brothers, Tyler Webber of Nebraska and Stephen Floyd of Elkins, West Virginia. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom he adored and who adored him in return.
Josh was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Shirley McKinney and James Webber; by his sister, Ashley Ronnenberg; and by his step-father Stephen Floyd. We find comfort in knowing they are now reunited.
A viewing will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Harrison Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington, followed by the burial of cremains at Boxerwood Gardens.
Flowers are welcome and may be sent to Harrison Funeral Home. For those who prefer, donations may be made in Josh’s memory to the Rockbridge Humane Society, a cause close to his heart and reflective of his deep love for animals.
Josh’s presence was a gift, and his memory will live on in the laughter he inspired, the art he created, and the lives he touched.
