JOHNNY CRUTCHFIELD

JOHNNY CRUTCHFIELD

JOHNNY CRUTCHFIELD

After several years of declining health, Johnny M. Crutchfield transitioned to his heavenly home on May 30, 2025, with his wife and family by his side.

Born on October 30, 1945, to John and Edith Crutchfield of the Collierstown community, Johnny was known in recent years as a fighter – courageous, determined, and strong. His remarkable spirit was nothing short of a miracle, as he battled Multiple Myeloma far longer than expected. Of all his titles, the one he cherished most was husband to his beloved Betty F. Crutchfield - his angel and partner in life for 61 years. Together, they faced his illness with unwavering devotion, embodying the deep love they shared.

Johnny was a devoted father to Stephanie C. Sokolowski (Joe) and John (JC) C. Crutchfield (Ashley), dedicating his life to instilling strong values and ethics that they have passed onto their families. JC’s wife, Ashley, held a special place in Johnny’s heart, playing a vital role in his care over the past several years.

He was known as Papa to Taylor, Jackson and Graham. Through the strongest hugs possible, his grandchildren knew they were loved. Often on the sideline of a lacrosse game for Taylor, or a basketball game for Jackson and Graham, he was an ardent supporter of the trio and so incredibly proud of their accomplishments. Many of his stories with his friends would begin with, “Let me tell you something” – the start of a tale about one of his grandchildren’s recent achievements.

Johnny worked for 50 years in a variety of supervisory roles at Rea Magnet Wire and Munters in Buena Vista. He retired from Munters in 2008.

In addition to his career, Johnny was widely known for his work outside of the office. A talented craftsman, he built homes, tended the land, and ensured his grandchildren and friends always had plenty of trout to catch in the pond on the family farm. He was also known as landlord to many, building and sharing a sanctuary of homes in his beloved home community of Collierstown.

Johnny found joy in evening drives to the country and soaking in the beauty of a community that always had his heart. You could find him stopped along the drive to say hello to the dear friends that made his hometown community so special. The bounties produced by his gardening were shared with many, and his ability to fix just about anything kept many things – and many hearts – running strong.

He leaves behind a multitude of family and friends whose lives are better because of his desire to serve others, extend grace to those in need, and love unconditionally.

Johnny often ended his visits with family and friends with a warm “Glad you got to see me” or a heartfelt “Two Things,” his way of saying I love you and I'm proud of you. These simple phrases have become cherished reminders for his family of his boundless love.

To our Honey, Daddy, Papa - Yes, we are so very glad we got to see you, and we will meet you in your heavenly home again soon. While we are apart, we will carry your “Two Things” with us daily.

A celebration of life will be held on June 21 at the family farm in Collierstown. Details to follow.
