GLEN MON

Glen Mon, 74, president of the Breakfast Club and the person behind the Celebrate Rockbridge events and First Responders Challenge for which he created the Devin Reilly Memorial Trophy, died at his home in Lexington on Monday, April 28.

Mon was active in the community, including serving on the Rockbridge Area Republican Committee, serving as greeter for the Newcomers Club, and a member of the English-Speaking Union and Stonewall Brigade Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was also a volunteer docent at the Stonewall Jackson House and was known for portraying Mr. Compton at the annual “Christmas at the Jacksons” event.

Prior to retiring and moving to Lexington, Mon had spent over 30 years managing sports and entertainment events at many leading coliseums across the country, including the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and major dome stadiums in Miami, Minneapolis, New Orleans, and Atlanta. During his career he managed 12 Super Bowls. He also was involved in the creation of the Florida Marlins baseball team while managing the professional sports stadium in Miami.

He was born in Long Beach, Calif., and graduated from the University of Southern California where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He went to work for a national stadium management firm right after graduating.

He is survived by his wife, Ashley.

A service of memory will be held for Mon at the Lee Jackson Memorial Park in Fairfield on Saturday, May 10, at 10 a.m.
