After playing professional basketball in the NBA G League, Lexington’s Andrew Rowsey has returned to Germany.

Rowsey, a 2013 Rockbridge County High School graduate, signed a oneyear contract with the Geissen 46ers earlier this month. The 46ers play in the Basketball Bundelisga, an 18-team league that is the highest level league of professional club basketball in Germany.

A 5-foot-11-inch combo guard, Rowsey, 29, most recently played basketball last year in the NBA G League for the Fort Wayne (Ind.) Mad Ants.

Rowsey previously signed with the 46ers in October 2020, but he only played in the preseason. Giessen is located in the Autobauhn, about 50 miles north of Frankfurt.

Local basketball fans remember Rowsey’s high school years well. Rowsey holds RC’s career scoring record with 2,637 points and the school’s single-game scoring record of 60 points. He led the Wildcats to the state semifinals as a junior and was named co-state player of the year after his senior season.

In college, Rowsey played two years at the University of North Carolina at Asheville before playing his junior and senior college seasons at Marquette University. He was named Big East Sixth Man of the Year as a junior and received All-Big East Honorable Mention honors as a senior. Rowsey then played for the Toronto Raptors’ NBA summer league team in 2018 before moving to Szolnok, Hungary, winning the Europe Cup championship in February 2019 with the team Olaj.

Rowsey, who is in his sixth year of playing professional basketball, played for the Lakeland Magic of the NBA G League in 2019-21, and the Magic won the G League title in 2021. In the 2019-20 season, Rowsey averaged 19.3 points per game and led the G League by shooting 47 percent from 3-point range.
