RC Lax Teams Advance

Both the RC boys and girls lacrosse teams won in the Region 4D quarterfinals, while the PM girls tennis team lost 5-4 at home against Giles in the Region 1C quarterfinals to finish the season at 12-2. In Pioneer District championship games, the PM baseball team lost at Narrows, and Covington beat the PM softball team.

Completing his season and career for the RC boys tennis team was senior Matthew Feldman, who suffered a 6-0, 6-0 loss to Wilson Memorial’s Conner Miller in the first round of the Region 3C singles tournament.

In girls lacrosse, the Wildcats (13-1), the top seed in Region 4D and the twotime defending champions, cruised to a 21-2 win over eighth-seeded Jefferson Forest (4-11) at The Fields at Southern Virginia University. Lola Mulitalo led RC with six goals, and Nala Shearer added four goals and four assists. The Wildcats will play host to fourthseeded Cave Spring in the regional semifinals today, Wednesday, at The Fields at SVU, with the game time set for 6 p.m.

In the Region 4D boys lacrosse quarterfinals, the fifth-seeded Wildcats (9-6) earned a 9-3 win over fourth-seeded Jefferson Forest (7-8) in Forest. Andrew Kelly and Quincy Speers led RC with three goals each, and Jack Jensen made 12 saves. With the victory, the Wildcats avenged an 8-7 April 21 home loss to the Cavaliers. The Wildcats will travel to face top seed Cave Spring for the semifinals today, Wednesday, at 6 p.m.

The second-seeded PM baseball team (8-5) recorded just one hit and struggled with seven errors in its 12-0 loss at Narrows (18-1) in the Pioneer District baseball finals, which defended its district title. The Blues will play host to Galax for a Region 1C quarterfinal game on Thursday at 5 p.m.

In the Pioneer District softball finals, the secondseeded Fighting Blues (117) suffered a 9-1 loss at top seed Covington (13-9), which defended its district title. PM’s lone run came in the seventh inning when Autumn Mundy tripled to right field to bring home Payton Emore. Olivia Julian pitched a complete game for the Blues. The Blues will play host to George Wythe in a Region 1C quarterfinal game on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Although the PM girls tennis team has concluded the team portion of its season, junior Addisen Roberts and senior Sadie Mays still have more tennis to play. Roberts will compete in the Region 1C singles tournament on Monday at Auburn, and Roberts and Mays will team up for the Region 1C doubles tournament on Tuesday at the same location.
