RC Boys, King Win At Alleghany

In the final meet before the postseason, the Rockbridge County High School boys swimming defeated Alleghany and Franklin County last Wednesday at the Alleghany YMCA, while the RC girls came up short against both schools.

In the final meet before the postseason, the Rockbridge County High School boys swimming defeated Alleghany and Franklin County last Wednesday at the Alleghany YMCA, while the RC girls came up short against both schools.

Also competing was Parry McCluer’s lone swimmer, junior Olive King, who won both of her races. King claimed the girls’ 200-yard individual medley in 2:32.63, narrowly missing the qualifying time for the Class 1 and 2 state meet. The PM swimmer also won the 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 59.44 seconds.

In the team duals, the RC boys edged Franklin County 42-40 and beat Alleghany 50-18. The Franklin County girls defeated the Wildcats 53-18 while Alleghany overcame RC 35-12.

The RC boys won four individual races and one relay. Spencer Pfaff claimed two races for the Wildcats, winning the 50-yard freestyle in 22.97 seconds and claiming the 100-yard freestyle in 53.55. Keagan Black won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:16.79 and placed second in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.73, while Grayson Garcia won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:01.16 and finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:38.21.

The RC boys won the 400yard freestyle relay in 3:57.76. Team members were Black, Pfaff, Will Gibbs and Roman Stanley. Also stepping up individually for the RC boys were Stanley, placing second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:21.35, and Ezra Kelland, finishing third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:52.44.

For the RC girls, Rio Bucy won the 50-yard freestyle in 28.66 seconds and placed third in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:20.05. Teammate Rowan Moles placed third in two races, the 50-yard freestyle in 33.64 and the 100-yard freestyle in 1:15.35. Lexi Walters finished fourth in two races, the 50-yard freestyle (34.21) and the 100yard freestyle (1:18.63).

The Wildcats are scheduled to compete in the Valley District meet tonight, Wednesday, at 6 p.m. at Westover Swimming Pool in Harrisonburg, with Spotswood playing host. In addition to those qualified by time or distance, the top six individuals and the top three relay teams will advance to the Region 3C meet. Harrisonburg swimmers will not count in the results because Harrisonburg is in a different region. The Region 3C meet is scheduled for next Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Brooks Family YMCA in Charlottesville. King will prepare for the Region 1C and 2C meet on Thursday, Feb. 8, at the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
