Aug. 15, 1973

All four area high schools began football practice. - The Green Berets of Lexington came in second in the Women’s USSSA State Softball Tournament in Hopewell. Team members Val Dock, Brenda Ford, Ann Umbarger and Faye Dale were named to the all-state team. - The Rockbridge County School Board refused to change the present bus routes for students on routes 699 and 608. A number of parents in that area had requested that their children be transferred from Glasgow and Natural Bridge schools to Central Elementary and Lexington High schools, but the board said such a change would result in overcrowding.

Aug. 20, 2003

Parry McCluer High School became the first area school to install security cameras. -A ceremony celebrating the completion of all phases of construction and renovation at Stonewall Jackson Hospital was held. A time capsule was placed in an outside wall near the entrance to the emergency department.
