The Rockbridge-Buena Vista Mental Health Association launched a public fund campaign to raise $25,000 to construct a new clinic building adjacent to the health department building on White Street.

--- In a speech to the Rockbridge County Farm Bureau, Sen. Harry F. Byrd Jr. voiced opposition for amnesty for draft dodgers and expressed doubt concerning U.S. aid to North Vietnam.

--- The Maury Service Authority gave T&B Builders Inc. of Scottdale, Ga., notice to begin construction of its new water treatment plant on the Maury River north of Lexington.

Buena Vista City Attorney W.T. “Pete” Robey III announced his resignation citing health reasons. --- The Buena Vista Colored School building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

--- The Rockbridge County Planning Commission voted in favor of amending the Natural Bridge Speedway’s conditional use permit so that jet dragsters would not be allowed in the future.
