A 5-kilometer road race and a kids’ fun run will kick off the 52nd annual Labor Day Festival in Buena Vista on Monday, Sept. 4. The races will take place prior to the downtown parade and will raise funds for the Parry McCluer High School cross country teams.

Registration will start at 7:30 a.m. at Camden Field. The kids’ 600meter run, for children age 9 and under, will begin at 8 a.m. There is no online registration, and there are no t-shirts. The fun run has no registration fee, although donations are welcome.

The 5K, open to all ages and scheduled for 8:30 a.m., will start and end at Camden Field, on the corner of Magnolia Avenue and 10th Street. The course, which will go on roads into downtown Buena Vista, is flat, fast and accurate. PM cross country runners, coached by Chris Poluikis, will be volunteering and cheering along the course. Awards will be given to the top three finishers and to age group winners.

Registration for the 5K is $10 per individual age 13 and over, while children age 12 and under run for free. Cash is accepted, or make checks out to Parry McCluer Cross Country.
