Rachel Clark, (630)

This past Sunday was Stewardship Sunday at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church. If you’d like to see the proposed budget, please email Hope Bird or Tim Hodges. Time and talent sheets are available in the back of the sanctuary.

A big thank you to Julia Evans who filled in on piano Sunday morning. She accompanied the praise band, led the hymns and played the offertory.

This coming Sunday, Nov. 19, New Monmouth will have a special Thanksgiving service at 5 p.m.

The Tuesday morning Bible study will not meet next week due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

On Sunday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m., New Monmouth has its annual advent wreath making gathering. Please let Rachel Clark know ASAP if you’d like to reserve a wreath form and candles. Dec. 3 is the first Sunday of Advent as well as the Clark open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 10 is the next called meeting of the New Monmouth session. At 2 p.m. the whole church is invited to go out caroling in groups to our shut-ins at 2 p.m.

From Nov. 26 to Dec. 17, New Monmouth will be collecting items for RARA as well as Natural Bridge Elementary. RARA needs nonperishable food as well as health and hygiene items and baby supplies. We are collecting children’s socks, underwear and sweatpants for the elementary school. Let’s fill those bins with as much as we can!

The Kerrs Creek Ruritan Club met at New Monmouth on Oct. 17 for its annual zone meeting. Members from the Natural Bridge and Effinger Clubs joined us for the meeting and meal. Each club spoke about events, fundraisers and community service they have done over the last year and continue to do.

Kerrs Creek had almost 2,000 hours of community service this year. Becky Lane, candidate for national president, was our guest. Dianne Swink stood in for Cindy Durham, Natural Bridge District governor, who was unable to attend. The District Convention was held Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Boys Home of Virginia in Covington.

The following officers for 2024 were elected: Vicki Hodges, president; Rosanne Mackey, vice president; Janet Drake, secretary; Felicia Bush, treasurer; and Reid Mackey, director. Wayne Spencer and Laura Hotinger will continue as directors.

Janet Drake was elected Zone 4 governor for 2024.

The club is supporting a fundraiser for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) called Mustaches for Kids, which is a national program. Reid Mackey and Richard Hasey have volunteered to grow mustaches for the month of November. The kickoff was held at Devils Backbone on Wednesday, Nov. 1. They will show their progress Nov. 15 at Devils Backbone. Dec. 1 will be the shave off. You can go to the website to make a donation.

The November club meeting will be held on Nov. 21 at 6:30 at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church.
