Glasgow Garden Club Observes Wreaths Across America Day

On Saturday, Dec. 16, Glasgow Garden Club observed Wreaths Across America Day by placing a wreath at its Blue Star Memorial Marker.

The marker is at the entrance to the National Guard Armory on Hines Lane in Rockbridge County.

Wreaths Across America was established in 2007 by veterans and trucking companies to distribute wreaths from Harrington, Maine, to Arlington National Cemetery and for placement on graves in other military cemeteries. In 2009, the U.S. Senate designed Dec. 13 as Wreaths Across America Day. Subsequent National Wreath Placement Days are designated as the second or third Saturday in December. The wreaths are ordered and shipped from Maine from the producer Morrill Worcester.

In 2023 more that 2 million wreaths were placed in cemeteries or veteran memorial monuments such as the Blue Star Marker in Rockbridge County.
