The Effinger Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank the patrons of its Aug. 26 barbecue chicken sale for making the event a sold-out success! The community support for the EVFD barbecues in May, July and August has been greatly appreciated. The proceeds from each event will make it possible for Effinger Fire and Rescue to continue to serve the community.

On Aug. 27 the Collierstown Presbyterian Church held its morning worship service on the church grounds. The congregation welcomed Burr Datz as the guest speaker. Special music was provided by Jeremiah Holland. Following the service, those in attendance enjoyed a covered-dish picnic lunch and a time of games and fellowship. Roger Lees led the final weekly worship service for campers during the month of August at the Lake Robertson Chapel.

The Collierstown Presbyterian Women would like to thank the community and friends of the church for the additional donations received in the past week, bringing the total number of school bags prepared to 250. Many thanks to everyone who gave school supplies or monetary gifts that helped make this project a huge success. The completed school bags will be shipped and distributed by Church World Service.

The Collierstown United Methodist Church’s United Women in Faith will hold their next meeting on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 6 p.m. at the church. Linda Painter will lead the evening’s program.

The Collierstown Presbyterian Women’s Night Circle will hold its first meeting of the 2023-24 Bible study year on Thursday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. Area women interested in participating are invited to attend. This year’s study is entitled “Christian Virtues” by Cindy Bunch, a senior editor for InterVarsity Press. The evening study will be available on Facebook Live from the church’s Facebook page. For more information or to obtain study materials, call Debbie McCormick at (540) 460-1325.

The Union View Advent Christian Church will have homecoming on Sunday, Sept. 10. The day’s activities begin with the morning worship service at 11 a.m. led by Pastor Nathaniel Rutan. Lunch and a time of fellowship will follow the worship service. The afternoon program will feature entertainment by Dorsey Hostetter and the Tri-Country Band. Union View Advent Christian Church is located at 4574 Turnpike Road in Collierstown.
