Sending birthday wishes to Ezra Wilson and Gabby Perez and congratulations to Gabby for her elementary school graduation! Happy birthday also to Faith Baptist Church members Sandy Hill and Lannie Ballard. Congratulations to Peyton Metz on his high school graduation!

At Faith Baptist Church there will be a Men’s Prayer Breakfast this morning at 8 and on May 28 the church will recognize graduating seniors, as well as hold a baptismal service. The church will have a vacation Bible school staff meeting on May 30 at 6:30 p.m.

Many thanks to the Rev. Dr. Jeannette Pillsbury, associate professor and director of the education program at Sweet Briar College, for leading a Holy Eucharist service for Ascension Sunday at St. John’s Episcopal Church as well as to Bert Buford and Josh Gardner for providing music for the service. Thanks also to Lynn Williams for providing food for coffee hour and thanks to Courtney VanOsten for making cake to celebrate two birthdays ‒ Terry Palmer’s and my own! This Sunday will be a service of Holy Eucharist led by the Rev. Brad Laycock.

St. John’s has served about 70 hikers so far on its first three Hiker Dinner Mondays. Special thanks to Grace Episcopal Church for coming to the May 15 dinner and providing barbecue, coleslaw, baked beans, chips, fruit and lots of hiker snacks to go. And, special thanks as well to the Rev. Dr. Bob Copenhaver for coming to the past two dinners and playing his bagpipes.
