5G Technology Panel Discussion Topic

The Armed Forces Communication and Electronics Association (AFCEA) Rockbridge Shenandoah Chapter will offer a student- moderated panel discussion, “The Race for 5G Dominance and How It Impacts Us Regionally,” at the Center for Leadership and Ethics in the Gillis Theater at the Virginia Military Institute this Thursday, Jan. 26, at 8 p.m.

The Armed Forces Communication and Electronics Association (AFCEA) Rockbridge Shenandoah Chapter will offer a student- moderated panel discussion, “The Race for 5G Dominance and How It Impacts Us Regionally,” at the Center for Leadership and Ethics in the Gillis Theater at the Virginia Military Institute this Thursday, Jan. 26, at 8 p.m.

The panel will feature Col Michael “Mike” B. Black, vice president for Defense at AFCEA, and Lenny Chin Sr., principal architect at AT&T Global Business - Public Sector.

Their discussion will focus on the implications of 5G technology, including its potential to revolutionize the way we use and interact with technology in our daily lives, as well as its impact on critical infrastructure, military operations, and national security. They will also explore the economic and political implications of the race for 5G dominance, particularly as it relates to the interests of democratic countries, such as the United States.

VMI cadets Cody Bartmann ‘25 and Derrell Fletcher-Knight ‘26 will moderate this panel discussion, and doors will open at 7:45 p.m. The audience will be seated by 8 p.m. for the kickoff. After the panel discussion ends, there will be ample time for a question-andanswer session. Doors close at 9:15 p.m.
