Government Brief

Lexington

Lexington City Council Feb. 20 unanimously approved a resolution to lower the city’s tier 3 water rate from $0.1495 per cubic foot to $0.1176 per cubic foot, making it equal to the city’s tier 2 water rate.

This will lower the billing rate for the city’s four largest water customers: Virginia Military Institute, Washington and Lee University, Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital and the Hampton Inn Col Alto.

The change is being made as part of a commitment the city made to VMI when drafting a memorandum of understanding to bill the institute through a master meter. The MOU was approved by City Council at its Jan. 16 meeting.

Nicholas Betts made the motion to approve the resolution, with Leslie Straughan providing the second. The motion passed in a unanimous 6-0 vote.
